In the fall of 2017, John Ravenal, Director of deCordova, challenged the LNS faculty to create a piece for the sculpture park based on our work with the children. This fortuitously coincided with our umbrella topic: How do children in residence encounter the deCordova sculpture park and museum? Our findings informed our creative vision which culminated in the interactive installation Encountering.
Please find the installation in the stand of trees where the LNS tree is located (across from the visitor station); all are invited to use the natural structures and loose parts to explore, imagine, and invent your own play scenarios.
Crucial materials and assistance were generously provided by parents Jason Curtin and John Magee, and deCordova maintenance crew Doug, Brad and Wade.
