The Lost Voice

There was a mystery in Studio Yellow this week.  Sue lost her voice.

Where could Sue’s voice have gone?

Sam – To somebody’s home.
Alex – She lost it at her home.
Thomas – How come she can still whisper?
Sue – I still have a little bit of my voice.
Kaya – If you go up and down (with the head) and swallow really hard maybe it will come back.
Thomas – Maybe someone swallowed her voice.
Kyla – She needs to open her tongue.
Ursula – We can all talk.  Everyone’s going to read to her.

How can we help Sue?

Kyla – We could draw her a picture. (To make her feel better.)
During free play time Sam and Kyla did choose to draw Sue a picture.

During the day while playing the children were still pondering about Sue’s lost voice.

Kaya – Sue, I think you’re whispering to pretend.
Sue – I wish I was pretending. I can only whisper.
Kaya – Sue, I think your voice is coming back a little! I think your voice flied out of your mouth to an airport.
Thomas – An airport? Airports are really far away.
Kaya – I think it’s at Turkey airport.
Sue – When do you think it will be back? What is it doing there?
Kaya (responding in turn with a whisper) I don’t know!

On entering the studio first thing in the morning the following day.

Thomas – Did you get your voice back?  It sounds a little bit louder but not much.
Kyla – Your voice is back.  It sounds like a little gone.

At meeting another discussion occurred around the state of Sue’s voice.

Kyla – It sounds like a frog.
Sam – A frog!
Zack – I think it’s outside.
Ursula – I thought it was in my house.
Kyla – On my birthday my voice sounded like that.  I had a frog in my throat.

Hilarious laughter all around – thinking about an actual frog in Kyla’s throat.

What does it mean to have a ‘frog in your throat?’

Kyla – I didn’t mean a real frog.  It means I sounded like a real frog.
Alex – When you came to visit at my house maybe you left it (her voice) there.
Sue – If you hear it, please let me know.
Ursula – If it is in the woods I’ll find it and bring it back.

Sue’s voice must have been at her house all along as she entered the studio Thursday being able to speak once again.  She no longer has a lost voice!
