No putting water in the beads.

No doubt you’ve heard about the newest material introduced into our sensory table this week. But do you know about the experiment that is currently underway?

The children were introduced to hydrated water beads – pliable, slippery, gelatinous marble sized balls. They can be scooped, poured, rolled, bounced and manipulated in many ways. While new to some, others were eager to share their knowledge about this material.

If we don’t put any more water it’s going to shrink. It’s going to take a very, very long time. EVA

Should we try it? Let’s put some beads in a jar and not add any more water.

It’s going to take a very long time. EVA

How many days will it take for them to shrink?

This much (ten fingers.) KAYA

I think a hundred. EVA

Knowing that we share our studio with many children it was decided that we needed to make some signs.  These signs would make others aware of our ongoing experiment.  To keep track of how many days our beads would take to shrink we also created a calendar.  We will cross off a number for each day we wait.
