Food features firmly in the minds of the Studio Yellow children. On the playground cakes and cupcakes are baked in the sandbox and the train often turns into a food truck offering coffee and ice cream. Within the studio, playdough was transformed into pies, spaghetti and meatballs and of course our babies always needed to be fed. Recently the car on the playground became a delivery truck delivering packages containing a variety of gifts. This truck made its way to Sue’s parents’ house where they were welcomed with tea and a treat. Will thought this treat could be a mashed sweet potato cake. “I know – we could mash sweet potatoes and make them into a cake. Then Sue needs to drive to her house and come back with five candles. It is not a birthday they are just for blowing out.” This week we turned this storytelling into reality. We searched and found a recipe for said mashed sweet potato cake and over the course of three days, we mashed, stirred, baked and finally ate our creation.
