This year as a staff, alongside our colleagues at the museum, we are researching empathy in relation to art and nature. To begin this collaboration, we teachers of Studio Red have begun noticing moments of empathy within our community. We acknowledge how the relationships between children, materials and environment add to our evolving definition of the concept of empathy. Empathy develops through the drive to understand and know. Curiosity is its catalyst.

Here Nico is curious about Sophie’s way of being – a way that is very different from his own. Through his question he is coming to know and understand her. And perhaps, to better know and understand himself.
