Dear Studio Red,
This week we found seeds in pumpkins and sorted through the seeds left in our big box!

OUR WEEK IN PARTS
INDOOR EXPLORE

How do acorns, stones, and wire help us tell stories with clay?
Why do our worms need leaves?

What happens when we mix a stronger color with another that is weaker? How do we follow a number pattern?
On every one, we do one blue. Jackson
Oh I know, now it’s gonna be 1 blue and 4 pink. Thomas

Why don’t we count them up? Travers

How do we use grids to help us count?

I’m only working in this little space. I’m just pushing away the sand. Charlie

How do we design with natural objects?
BOOKS

After some children expressed confusion about why we released Toad, we decided to read this book aloud to learn more about her life in her natural habitat.
We learned that a toad recycles their tail during metamorphosis.

We are developing a Studio Red greeting! It now has three parts: fist bump, thigh slap, elbow touch.
Do you remember the steps to play our memory game?
Can you teach your family our Studio Red greeting?

STORY WORKSHOP
What character parts did you make with rectangles and squares?
We returned to explore characters, this time with cardboard! After looking through a book for inspiration, we arranged and rearranged squares and rectangles to create characters. Then came the challenge to draw and color.

THINKING WITH A LINE
We returned to our work with buildings. Children took on the challenge to cut out a copy of their painting. These paintings with become a setting for stories in our small block space. Then everyone created one more building with silver paint. This time, changing the orientation. If they printed a tall building, they made one wide!
