Open Shut Them (traditional)
Self-regulation, body awareness, literacy, ESL
The “intro” is an opportunity to showcase the movement “vocabulary” of the class. Once you start looking at the world through this lens, you will notice loads of symbols that children and teachers know and use. When you incorporate these into the intro of the song, you are bringing the class together and growing the class culture. Notice that it could become like a story of an alligator and shark who are hungry for the hot dog and we have to hide from them. You could come up with other stories as well.
The “intro” is also a terrific way to bring a focus to the group. Instead of instructing everyone to quiet down and pay attention, you are saying “open open open open” until you have everyone’s attention.
