Do you have a favorite thing you almost always love to do? Something that when you’re doing it you don’t think about anything else that is happening around you. Something that you can do again and again and again and never get tired of it. Something that’s not always exactly the same so it never gets boring to you. Something you have to think about it and sometimes figure out a problem. It feels so good when you stick at it and solve the problem. I do. The thing I love do is to make pottery. While I’ve been at home, I’ve been working on a project that Nancy asked me to do for LNS. I have a problem though and think that you might be able to help me with the solution. Kjerstin and I have been thinking a lot about the things the children who come stay for Extended Day like to do over and over again. Sometimes they are things to do alone, sometimes it is something do alongside other children and sometimes it is something for two, three or more kids together. Often, if children see one of us before Extended Day starts, they will ask if we can do a favorite activity that day.

Here is the way I make Playdough!
First, I gather all of the ingredients together. You will need flour, salt, cream of tarter, oil and water. To measure your ingredients you will need measuring cups and spoons.
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of salt
1 tablespoon of cream of tarter
Mix all of the dry ingredients together with a spoon, or you can even use your hands!
Next add 1 cup of water.
I tablespoon of oil
Mix the dry and wet ingredients with a spoon. Then cook on medium heat.
Keep stirring and stirring until the mixture begins to stick together. It is best if it is a bit sticky at first. That way it will not be too dry. You can add a little flour when you roll it out.
If you would like a color you may add a few drops of food color. You may even add a scent like cinnamon, vanilla extract or an essential oil such as lavender! Sometimes at Lincoln Nursery School we even add glitter!
