Author/illustrator Sarah Brannen visited LNS on Wednesday, and we headed over to Studio Yellow to see her. She told us a little bit about her process behind writing books, how she gets an idea and then goes for walks to think about it, then writes those ideas down. She showed us some of the illustrations from her sketchbook where she works on her ideas.
Then she read us Bear Needs Help – a truly adorable book that is perfect for three-year-olds! After that, she suggested we draw a picture of a favorite animal of ours and maybe add a hat to it! Here are some of the children’s drawings, and what animals we can remember they drew. It was fortuitous that this was her prompt, as we had just had a spontaneous discussion about what everyone’s favorite animal was last Thursday!
Sarah also gave us a quick reading of Madame Martine, which she wrote and illustrated.
Finally, we thanked her with a bouquet of flowers!
