Making a plan.

The Inspiration.

Maren brought a sprouting onion into Studio Red.

The Possibilities.

1.  It could be a Q.

2.  It looks like a palm tree.

3.  We could plant it.

She shared her thinking with the whole group.

The Research.

She invited those who were interested to join the project.  Referencing the onion itself, their own prior knowledge, and photographs, the group wondered:

How could we plant this onion?

The Plans.

Maren's Plan
Lyla's Plan
Ray's Plan
Beatrice's Plan

The List.

Taking into account each plan, the study group compiled a list of items necessary to complete their task.

      Rake!

      Shovel!

      Seed!

      Water!

      Onion!

      Soil!

      Hoe!

      Rocks!

When children see themselves as agents of their own learning they take risks and consider the world to hold infinite possibilities. Through the process of working with others they practice envisioning, planning and executing an idea. They cultivate empathy, respect and creativity.
